Announcement: Introduce Solar Power Generation System at TOWA (Nantong) Co., Ltd.

December 9, 2022

TOWA Group has decided to introduce a solar power generation system at TOWA (Nantong) Co., Ltd., a consolidated subsidiary in China, to work on the creation of renewable energy. The detail is as follows.

TOWA Group has decided to introduce a solar power generation system at TOWA (Nantong) Co., Ltd., and has started construction with a plan to complete and start operation in the middle of January 2023. Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the factory, and approximately 871,000 kWh of power generation is planned for the first year. With the introduction of this solar power generation system, we will be able to cover more than 20% of the annual electricity used at this plant, and it is expected that CO2 emissions will be reduced by approximately 530 tons*1 annually.
*1 Calculated using the CO2 emission factor of "IEA Emission Factors 2022" (614.4g-CO2/kWh)

TOWA Group is fully aware that reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which cause climate change, is an important issue, we set CO2 emission reduction targets and work on Carbon Neutrality throughout the Group.
 (1) Reduce Scope 1+2*2 CO2 emissions by 42% compared to FY2020 in FY2030
 (2) Aim for net zero (carbon neutral) by 2050
*2 Scope1: Direct greenhouse gas emissions from our group
Scope2: Indirect emissions from the use of electricity, heat and steam supplied by other companies

At our group's production bases, we have started operating solar power generation systems at TOWA (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. and TOWAM Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia) in January 2022, and at Kyoto East Plant in Japan in March 2022, and we are responding to the creation of renewable energy and the global power shortage. In addition, since July last year, we have switched all the electricity used at our main domestic bases (Headquarters/Factory, Kyoto East Plant, Kyushu Work) to the renewable energy derived electricity.
Through these efforts, we were able to cover 28.9% of the electricity used by the entire Group with renewable energy in FY2021.
In FY2022, we expect to be able to cover about 40% of the electricity used by our Group from renewable energy sources through the full-scale operation of solar power generation systems and the continued purchase of the renewable energy derived electricity.

Our group will continue to promote the reduction of CO2 emissions to realize a decarbonized society.
